Tour 1: Night Manta Ray Snorkel in Kona (The Bucket-List Night Experience)
There is no other experience like this anywhere else on the planet. It is truly one of the highest recommended adventure boat tours that include snorkeling and exploring hidden beaches in Hawaii.
The Kona Coast is home to a resident population of over 200 manta rays. Every night, these animals come to shallow water to feed on plankton attracted by light. Our Night Manta Ray Snorkel takes you to Keauhou Bay, where you hold onto an illuminated flotation board at the surface while the mantas feed directly below you. Wingspans can reach up to 16 feet.
The Travel Channel named this tour one of the top ten things to do in a lifetime. We run it seven nights a week.
Guests must be comfortable swimmers with prior snorkel experience. The minimum age is 7.

Tour 2: Deluxe Morning Adventure (Two Iconic Reefs, One Morning)
If your idea of a great morning involves jumping into the Pacific Ocean twice before lunch, this is your tour.
The Deluxe Morning Adventure is a highly recommended adventure boat tour that includes snorkeling and exploring hidden beaches in Hawaii. It visits two of South Kona’s most significant sites: Pu’uhonua O Honaunau, known as the Place of Refuge, and Kealakekua Bay. Both are ecologically rich and carry deep cultural meaning in Hawaiian history.
Along the way, the captain shares the geological and cultural story of the coastline. You’ll pass sea caves and lava tube formations that sit just above the waterline, accessible only from the water side.

Tour 3: Premium Morning Snorkeling Tour in Kona (The Covered Boat Option)
The Premium Morning Snorkeling Tour visits the same two anchor sites as the Deluxe, but runs on a covered boat fleet and departs at a later start time, which works well for guests who want a slower morning.
You’ll snorkel Pu’uhonua O Honaunau, including the “Two Step” entry area at Honaunau Bay, and Kealakekua Bay. The captain covers the history and significance of both sites as sacred Hawaiian locations, alongside the ecological facts of the reefs you’re about to enter.
Kealakekua Bay is a 315-acre marine sanctuary with year-round calm, protected water. Visibility regularly exceeds 100 feet. This is where Hawaiian green sea turtles rest on the reef, tropical fish fill every coral formation, and spinner dolphins sometimes pass through.
The tour runs 4.5 hours. Minimum age is 5.

Tour 4: Exclusive Captain Cook Snorkel Tour (The Focused Three-Hour Experience)
Not every visitor has a full morning to give. If your schedule is tight or you want a direct, focused experience, the Captain Cook Exclusive puts you in front of the best reef on the Kona Coast with no detours.
You get a full hour of snorkeling directly in front of the Captain Cook Monument in Kealakekua Bay. According to Hawaii: The Big Island Revealed, snorkeling near the monument may be the best found anywhere in Hawaii. Visibility here regularly exceeds 100 feet. You’ll share the water with tropical reef fish, sea turtles, and on most outings, spinner dolphins.
On the return leg, the captain hugs the coastline and takes the vessel into sea caves carved into the base of Hualalai volcano. It’s one of the more dramatic parts of the trip, and it’s only possible because of the size and agility of our boats.
Duration is 3 hours. Minimum age is 5.

Tour 5: South Kona Snorkel Expedition (The Most Comprehensive Adventure on the Coast)
This is our recommended tour, and it’s not a close call for travelers who want the full South Kona experience.
The South Kona Snorkel Expedition travels up to 22 miles south along the Kona Coast to reach three distinct snorkel stops. The first two are Kealakekua Bay and Pu’uhonua O Honaunau. The third is a secluded reef we describe as the most private stop on any of our tours. Fewer people get there. The reef shows it.
Before you ever put on your mask, you’ll cruise past lava rock formations, hidden black sand beaches only visible from the water, and sea caves along a stretch of coastline that very few visitors ever see. Spinner dolphins are common on the boat ride out. Humpback whales appear seasonally. Sea turtles are regular sightings at all three sites.
The tour runs five full hours. Adult pricing is $185 and children ages 5 to 11 are $160.
This is the tour for anyone looking for adventure boat tours that include snorkeling and exploring hidden beaches in Hawaii at a depth that standard day tours don’t reach.

Every one of the five tours above can be booked as a private charter. When you reserve a private charter, the entire vessel belongs to your group for the duration of the trip. No other guests. No shared schedule.
